Only gods are worshipped unconditionally. People have to earn their love.

And Lady Gaga is only human - without question both deservedly famous and polarising, talented and fallible.

She attracts more fawning fanboyism than any artist with only two albums deserves, and just as much uninformed criticism from those who underestimate her.

So welcome to the middle - where we want the best from her... but good or bad, we'll take everything for what it is.

I'm 20, straight and Australian; part-time metalhead/pop fan, full-time music obsessive. I'm writing about every Madonna single here: The comparisons aren't entirely valid, but no one is more important than Madonna in understanding what Lady Gaga could be.

space-cat-deactivated20110517-d asked: Interesting idea for a blog! I don't know how well it'll work though, I don't know anyone who is middle-ground on GaGa. You either hate her or you worship her. XD

What you say in your side bar, "only gods are worshipped unconditionally". Well, that makes GaGa a god because so many people worship her unconditionally. All gods have their followers as well as people who don't believe in them. To a great deal of people, GaGa is the messiah :D

Good luck with your blog though. It's a bold idea and I salute you for it. I'm betting you'll cop a lot of crap from GaGa worshippers though XD.

Ooh, first ever question, thank you very much! You’re absolutely right in that gods, and in fact ideas are only as powerful as the number of believers they have… and musically, Gaga’s only improved as she’s become more popular. I hope that stays true, because there are damn well too many artists who’ve peaked and fallen off the deep end.

Again, thank you - and a little bit of hate is healthy! I’ll be even happier if I can convert a few Gaga haters along the way…
